My Leonard Curtis journey so far with Becky Owen, Head of Commercial Finance
Becky Owen joined Leonard Curtis in February 2024, heading up the commercial finance team in a newly created role. We find out more about her time so far and plans for the future.
What were your impressions of LC before you joined, and have they changed?
I have had the pleasure of working with a number of the team in my previous roles and have always been impressed at the professionalism, personal approach and passion to help solve problems. My perception has not changed since joining LC, the amount of talent and experience is outstanding and a great resource for me and my team to use when needed.
Tell us about your role and your plans for the funding team
I am delighted to head up a team of Business Development Managers (brokers) who work with SMEs to structure finance and source appropriate lenders to work with to suit the needs of each individual client. We have exciting plans to expand the team and brokerage moving forward balancing this with supporting the strong established team to thrive. It’s been really interesting working with the extensively wide funding market and providers having always been in banking and start up banking roles previously.
What has been your highlight so far?
Supporting a client to source finance to save her business in a very challenging situation. This is one of the main reasons I moved out of banking to work with a great brand behind us to be able to support more SMEs using my background, skills and contacts to deliver more than just finance - to help business and individuals in all aspects of navigating the challenges of running a business and accessing appropriate funding.
What do the next 12 months look like for you and the team?
I am personally going through a process of ‘de-banking’ … if there is such a term! Getting to know the wider LC team across the UK and supporting our professional contacts who are our main source of referrals. We are all committed to taking the business further and expanding to be a partner to our customer in a complex market where accessing finance is challenging. The team are continuingly developing with a structure that plays to the individual’s strength, skills and background so we provide the best possible solutions to clients. We are acquisitive and keen to grow which will present opportunities for us to develop the brokerage and wider funding team at LC.
